40 Days In! The Most Popular Posts From Deconstructed Pastor So Far
What you might have missed on Deconstructed Pastor in the first 40 days.
I try to use weekends to send a quick note highlighting a few posts you may have missed.
I write almost every day. I know that can feel like a lot—I don’t expect anyone to keep up with it all. If a post hits you at the right time, read it. If not, save it for later or gently escort it to the trash.
Today marks 40 days since I launched this Substack. We’ve doubled in subscribers over the past few weeks (thank you!). So here are a few posts you might’ve missed.
The “A Brief History” Series
This occasional series traces how key ideas evolved—from antiquity through Jesus, Paul, church history, and into modern evangelicalism. It’s mostly for evangelicals and ex-evangelicals who were taught that certain truths were “timeless” when they weren’t.
These posts are the most shared and popular ones I’ve written. (Yes, the one on sex got the most clicks. Sex sells—even in Deconstruction Club.)
Here are all the “Brief History” articles, ready when you are.
Posts About What We Are Doing Here
For what it’s worth, I’m generally pretty conflict-avoidant—but I’ve still had to remove three people so far. Not for disagreeing with me, but for being combative or trying to proselytize.

About Paid Subscriber Perks
Everything I write here is free—and always will be. I just hope it helps.
I didn’t start this to make money, but paid subscribers allow me to spend more time doing this work. I’m a freelance speaker, teacher, and consultant, so if this space brings in a little income, it helps me justify devoting more energy to it. For those of you who’ve chosen to support it financially—thank you. It really means a lot.
The main “perk” for paid subscribers ($5/month or $35/year) is access to our quarterly live Zoom sessions. I call them Q&Q Sessions—because we value questions over answers. (That said, I have some smart friends, so you may leave with a few answers too.) Our first session is May 20th with Brian McLaren.
There’s also a $150/year tier that includes a 60-minute 1:1 Zoom coaching session with me. That’s just my standard hourly coaching rate from my other work. I know it’s not for most of you, but a few have signed up—and it seems to have helped.
The Very Last Thing - Called For Adventure
Deconstructed Pastor is my second Substack. I’ve been writing for over a year at Called For Adventure, which isn’t about faith or deconstruction—but about helping people understand their own story, find their life calling, and say yes to their next big adventure.
It draws heavily from Joseph Campbell’s work, and this week I’m starting a new series on The Hero’s Journey. You’re welcome to subscribe there too—just know it’ll double your emails from me. 🙂 But I think some of you would really enjoy it.
I may have missed one of you postings but I was wondering your views on creation. Is it big bang, intellectual design, natural selection or something else?
